Yes I know, this is another clicking noise thread but I've done a fair few things to rectify and it's driving me nuts!!

So it occurs between 3 and 6 on the driveside. It occurs seated and standing. Sounds worse the more pressure applied. So far I've:

1. Taken all the chainring bolts off, cleaned, lightly greased and replaced.
2. Replaced all the chainring bolts.
3. Tried different pedals.
4. Replaced the bottom bracket.
5. Taken the chainrings apart completely, cleaned, lightly greased. Put them back together the wrong way round. Took them apart again, put them back the right way.

This morning.. click...click...click... All I can think that's left to do is replace the chainset but as I've taken the current one completely apart I'm not sure what replacing it will do?

Any ideas?

Is it the Giant or the PX?
Have you checked the headset and that the wheels are seated true and the QR's are tight?

Also check the cassette lockring is torqued up correctly. A lot of noises echo through the frame and convince you that the problem is in one area when it is actually at t'other end of the bike.

It's the Giant. Tightened the headset yesterday as part of the other bits I was doing. Will check wheels tonight.

Fairly sure lockring is ok. But will check. And I know what you mean about noises but this one seems to be coming straight up from below me when pedalling.

It's the between 3 and 6 bit that's puzzling me. I would have also gone for a saddle/seatpost issue apart from it happens when standing as well.

I did have this problem unknowingly and I thought
'hmm must change BB'
However I went to strip and clean the cassette in the ol' parts washer and the lockring , while not loose , wasn't tight either. The wear pattern in the freehub indicated that the sprockets had been able to move, particularly the more central ones. (Ultregra cassette on Hope freehub).
Of course there's the silly thing where you're catching the end of the front mech cable with your shoe every revolution?

I'd be inclined to think it's the bottom bracket. However does it occur only when pedalling, or all the time?

Only when pedalling and mainly when the pedal is between 3 and 6 on the drive side. The bottom bracket is brand new (fitted last Sunday!)

Had exactly the same thing, drove me nuts, replaced loads of bits like bottom bracket, freehub and chain,i removed seatpost and carbon pasted that, removed everything to do with pedalling re-greased and tightened as I couldn't see how it could be from anywhere else.......click..click..click.....then I took apart the handlebars/steerer and found a large chip of paint had wedged itself inside the bearing, removed this and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! What was really strange was it used to click even when riding with no hands:wacko:

It looks like rusty may be the winner. Just wiggled the cassette and it's slightly loose. Confirmation of fix to follow once the current work crisis is over

Sorry - hadn't spotted you'd replaced that, to try and solve it.

Mmm, I guess a new bike is a bit drastic. You said you replaced the chainring bolts. Do you mean the bolts on the actual chainring itself or the crankarm bolts? What sort of crankset is it - Hollowtech II? If so, remove and check the pinch bolts if you haven't already.

Often have this problem through our workshop! People will swear it is bb/crank/pedal problem. More often than not it is cured by removing the front plate stem bolts. cleaning the crap out, grease them, refit and torque up. I know it sounds unlikely and many customers don't believe me but when you are rding you are actually pulling on the bars a lot.
