I just 'accidentally' went into a newly opened Giant bike shop.

GO FOR IT!!!!
As my OH said to me......"you cant take it with you".
Buying new and giving 20% away in tax is a sacrifice in order to be certain of getting exactly what you want and when you want it.
And.......enjoy it.

Surely paying tax goes towards those less fortunate and cannot afford a new bike, so it could be considered a charitable donation.

Quite agree. I would happily pay the 20% and give a further 20% to a charity such as smackheads anonymous.

Rather different from your other bikes posted on here, are you having a mid life crisis?
It is a massive departure. Most of my bikes values added together, wouldn't equal half the cost of this one, but on the grand scheme of things, I consider it to be a worthy investment. I'm just a little bit wary of the massively aggressive geometery. The stem isn't as slammed as the example in the picture ( they do that to make it 'look good' in the press releases) but it could be an 'interesting' proposition on a 170 mile ride:eek:.
