I was thinking of going out every other day (same route until I'm totally comfortable being back on the bike)....does that sound reasonable or too much to start with?

No good plan. Just don't over do otherwise you won't want to go out at all. Don't do just that route after this week, pick one part of it to go off somewhere else.

My lower back is screwing with me a bit (I have arthritis is my upper and lower spine) but nothing more than usual.
Hot bath later I think <insert smiley bubble bath icon here>

I have lower back disc problems and must admit the cycling did give me grief for the first while but has gradually eased off and, if anything, is probably actually helping now.

OT I've found that the case with injuries, gentle cycling can ease them off; I'm just hoping the same is applicable to my calf
Hope so too HLab. You sound like you got pretty shook up. Your quite a bit younger than me, but I think the mental aspect of crashes and/or near misses can be as hard or harder to get over than the physical ones.

@ScotiaLass Well done :highfive:, the more you do the more your body will become accustomed to it, muscles will develop to help support you over time, It took me over a year to be really comfy on the bike.
@Mo1959 did I not tell you something like that sometime back.

Decent plan...as the days tick by you'll find it easier and easier to do that distance. Maybe after a week or two, up your mileage to say 10-12 miles and do the same. You'll probably surprise yourself how far you can actually go without feeling the effects too much...that's what I've found.

Keep up the good work .

Take a cup of tea and a good book and you'll feel even better (I take wine but I'm just a lush)

The only thing I drink is bottled lager (Millers Gold usually but have been known to try others)....I have a Terry Pratchett book to read so I may open that, along with a celebratory beer
