I am just back from my first ride in 6 years.

I had planned a route but didn't know how far it was, all cycle paths except two short stretches, and one steep hill.
Okay so I had to push the bike up the hill....but, I did a grand total of.....<drum roll please>

8.02 miles :hyper::bicycle:

It was better than I imagined, although I think my thighs may hate me tomorrow!
I was in lycra shorts (got tights but I find them too tight on my legs) and a cycling top - couldn't feel my thighs on the way back!
I took the lightweight jacket and needed it, as I got caught in a downpour!
The new tyres were great and I felt comfortable on slightly narrower tyres than I had been used to (MTB's)

It's done. The first one is out of the way and I'm as pleased as punch :biggrin:

Congratulations, ScotiaLass! When your legs feel like lead tomorrow, remember with pride how they got stiff.

Very well done - what is the next target? :smile:

I think a round 10 sounds good :smile:

Well done. My first was only about 7 I think and I felt terrible :laugh: Sounds like you are going to get back into it reasonably quickly, but just take it easy. I was even thinking about doing every other day myself for a while. I think as long as you don't take any more than about three or four days off at a time you should still build your fitness up.

Thanks Mo.
I think every other day is do-able although I did feel I could have kept cycling today and gone further....the hill coming back the way reminded me it was probably a good idea I didn't :laugh:

I was thinking of going out every other day (same route until I'm totally comfortable being back on the bike)....does that sound reasonable or too much to start with?
That sounds reasonable and gives the legs time to recover between rides. Just up the distance occasionally and before you know it you'll be looking at 10 miles as a short ride.:thumbsup: Have fun.
