Hi all,

First post so please be gentle

I'm currently on the look out for a road bike (with discs, and a strong preference for thru axles front and rear). I want an aluminium frame (as I'm clumsy and have small children and would cry if I had a nice carbon bike that I / they broke). I have currently narrowed it down to:

Cube Attain SL disc - http://www.cube.eu/uk/products/road-race/attain/cube-attain-sl-disc-blackngreen-2016/
Hoy Alto Irpavi (.003) - https://roadcyclinguk.com/gear/hoy-launch-alto-irpavi-disc-brake-road-bike.html#AkGf3ca5pzqtCoug.97

I've heard good things about the Cube Attain (and the spec for the price looks unbeatable), but the upgraded shifters on the Hoy Alto Irpavi are tempting!

Has anybody had any experiences with riding either bike? I am massively indecisive, so would welcome opinions!

Thanks!

Alex

Nice bikes both.

Hoy doesn't have mudguard eyelets as AFAIK. The Cube does.

Cube has wider gear range at rear - may or may not matter to you.

Cube is a whopping saving (£300) over the .003 - may or may not matter to you.

The '5' series shifters really differ to the '6' series in terms of slightly different shape to the hoods and that the '6' can be used with electronic shifting - I think this is correct but please do check as I may be wrong.

Cube has 160mm rotors vs Hoy 140mm rotors - the 160mm's might be better if a) you are heavy and b) you do a lot of steep descending. You can get an adapter for the flat mounts on the Hoy to accept 160mm rotors if you wish.

Cube will definitely take up to 32mm rubber (Cube informed e via email query) - not so sure with the Hoy.

IMO Cube paint finish is in an entirely different league to the Hoy.

Also like the idea of an 11-32 cassette! I live in the peaks, so a decent low gear would be handy.

The hoy has an 11-28 rear cassette, but is a bit lighter (c. 1kg).

Evans currently has a part trade in for old bikes, so would come in at 1350 vs 1200 for the cube.

See, I said I was indecisive! ;-)

You should be able to get 10% off at a Cube dealer.

I'm hoping to get it through cycle to work (+top up) - so I very much doubt they'll be up for knocking off another 10%! I might cheekily ask them though ;) (or maybe to throw in some mudguards.

Regards,

Alex
Indeed they won't as they have to pay a fee to take c2w

My response was to the other poster

hi yeah picked it up this morning I love the Matt black wet finish and the red highlights really finish it off,it's lighter than I imagined 8.6kg is light to me ,by all accounts it's got full 105. and a decent set of wheels all for £999 I'm happy

Excellent! You'll have to tell me more when you've had a proper ride!

I've asked my lbs to order one (the sl disc) to test ride - hopefully that will help me make a decision. I'm definitely leaning towards the cube.
