Top Ten. I think he's in the best shape that he'll ever be in, but the course this year doesn't suit him quite as much as two years ago.

Top 10 for me

Top 30 for me - he was struggling in the climbs against some relatively modest opposition during the Dauphine.

He's a bit "manufactured" in his pedalling style as well - so I can't see him coping with the constant changes of pace at the sharp end.

At his best a top five is on the cards, though I've got him down for a podium with my optimist's hat on. Le Tour can be a strange race, a crash or a bad day for a few of the favourites could see them well out of contention and a few freash faces in the top positions.

After today unfortunately I'll have to lower my expectation of the top 10 for Wiggins.

Although I'm hearing conflicting reports, some have him 6 secs down others a minute 30

The official results are here: http://www.letour.fr/2011/TDF/LIVE/us/100/classement/index.html Ignore the others.

It is very simple. All time lost in the second big crash was discounted as the crash happened within the final 3km. So Wiggins, Cav and others are 6 seconds behind. It's been the same rule for quite some time. Unfortunately for Contador et al., their crash happened with 8.5km to go, so the time lost stays.

So Wiggins wasn't in the 8.5km crash, I thought the commentator said he was, it all makes sense if he wasn't, cheers :-)

No, he was further up. Actually that isn't just bad luck on Contador's part - being as near to the front as possible makes sense when the pace is that high on narrow roads. So for once, Wiggins and Sky got it right and SaxoBank messed up.

It's not the first time Contador has been asleep at the wrong end of the peloton. The same happened in '09 when the bunch split in a crosswind and he lost time to his rivals, including team-mate LA who was gleefully helping to drive the first group.
