The logic is obvious as far as I am concerned. if some party FUBARS your kit then you are entitiled to have it replaced, this assumes you were in no way contributory.
The tricky bit comes when you get an offer. Does it compare with what you were expecting, and, what you are entitled to?
You may be offered the residual value of your kit, ie. it was worth on the day of its demise.
OTOH, you may wish for "new for old".
The difficulty comes when obsolescent kit is involved. New components bearing the same name may not have the same performance as your original kit, so you may want an upgrade. This equals conflict.
