How often should I clean my bike chain down and re-grease - or lube it ?

I have done it quite recently and have noticed a massive difference but im not sure how long I should leave it as I definitely left it to long last time please help?......

I would of thought weekly would ware you chain out quicker if you had to clean it down and regrease it every week? woudnt it?

For me it depends on the conditions, and if it is winter. When conditions are good I may run two or three rides before I wipe, de-grease, clean and re-appy lube. Other factors that will affect this will be your mileage of the rides, if your only pootling to the shops and back then its not worth such effort.

Impossible to know without knowing the mileage and type of riding you do.

I generally use light viscosity chain lube and when conditions are wetter than usual I'll apply it weekly, otherwise a bit less often. Having just read "The Method", I'm happy to report that's the exact procedure I use . Of course, nothing's more thorough than the ShelBroCo Bicycle Chain Cleaning System, but that's a bit too hardcore for me.

Sounds like you've had this one answered, but I agree. I clean my chain weekly (usually!), using "muc-off" degreaser, and one of their chain-cleaner devices so it only takes a few minutes.

Obviously re-lube after every clean, but if the weather is horrible I lube up to a few times a week, sometimes daily if it's really been chucking it down with rain.

Worth noting that I ride in all weathers, 40 miles a day 3-5 days a week. You may be able to do yours much less often if you only ride in the dry, or your milage is lower.
