To be fair, London is my work end, Maidstone is my can't find an LBS end. If I did have a handy one in London, getting the bike to them for any length of time would be a pain.

If it needs fettling fettle it. If it needs cleaning clean it. So for oiling, greasing etc. Replace bits when they wear out.
But I usually try to rebuild bearings at least once a year, usually in the winter when I do less riding.
