I've moved 3 times, my better half has moved 13 times.
Love it here. Just waiting for wind to drop then 200 yards to trans pennine trail and off to Dunford Bridge.

Two when still with my parents, then bought a flat when I married, moved to a house when my daughter arrived, upsized after 9 years and been here ever since( 20 years now).
I managed to retain the house during my divorce as I still had the kids.

Just a stones throw from us

As child we moved quite a lot  and something I promised we wouldn't do with our children if we could help it.

Bought my first house and had it for 5 years; next for 10 then the current we are coming up to 8 years with no plans to move unless a life event dictates!

We've been here 23 years, the only house I've owned and the mortgage is now paid off. I moved around a bit in my student days and the couple of years after, but all within 3 miles of where we are now.
We will move on when we retire.

7 rentals and 3 owned homes (one at any one time). One landlady was a real piece of work. And she was well educated. One landlord surprised us with a fruit and food hamper when we left for keeping his place near and tidy.

Relocations were due work mainly. Luckily to have good neighbours each time.

Since I left home at age 18, I have lived in about 30 ouses. There are some additional short term places of less than 3 months, but I have not counted them. As as 58 yr old, that is one every year. Thankfully, we now have a place which will last for a few more years.

In our married life it's 4 times.

Moving into this house we were helped but 2 sets of friends with vans. The distance was about 6 miles.
Once the last load was unloaded Jo had made some food and we all sat on the sunny patio. As we were eating Patrick said "good job you didn't have a loft to empty..."
Jo and I looked at one another, "SH1T!"
There was a bloody van full.

I like that story!

Reminds me of a friend of my dads who was a plasterer, they had a huge loft crammed full of junk and was clearly going to be a nightmare when they moved. Solution - plasterboard over the loft hatch and forget it was ever there!!:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Since marriage - 2 flats, then Australia for 2 years, then a cottage in Kent for 19 years, then we moved to the house next door ten years ago.

I'm lucky to love where we live - lots of cyclists obviously love it too as they frequently go down our lane singly or in packs!

I have a couple of friends who move house all the time, never moving far away, always in the same area, just seem to be circling around. I've never understood it, but maybe I've just been lucky in finding houses that I've loved. It must be so expensive to keep moving.

Moving is a nightmare - can't imagine why you'd want to do it out of choice. I lived in the same house all my childhood & teens, bought my first flat after renting a couple of places after university (including a shared house, where I met the missus), then a house when we started having kids. That was almost 20 years ago, and I don't plan on moving again anytime soon.

My Dad has only ever lived in three houses, the farm he grew up on, a flat in Ealing when he first moved to this country for about 6 months and finally the house they still live in.

Me, I grew up in one house and and excluding Uni moving around I've only ever lived in two houses, first for 20+ years and then this one for coming up to 4 years soon. I intend to stay here as long as possible if we get it to suit us as I'm not keen on moving.... For a start it takes ages to get around to DIY, and we like our neighbours.

As a child...

6 in Scotland
7 in England
3 in the US

As an 'adult'...

9 in England
2 in Scotland
3 in France

More than I'd thought to be honest, and my adult moves have mostly been between rented places so no furniture to worry about. Been living in our current house for 5 years and don't fancy a change any time soon.
