In th morning, the alarm goes at 6.30 am and I catch the 7.15am train. I always have breakfast, shave, watch the morning news, dress in cycle gear, pack rucksack and cycle (admittedly very short journey) to the station. At work, it takes me 15 mins from deciding to leave to walking out the building.

My alarm goes of at 5:55 and by six I am on the bike, everything i need is kept with the bike. Uniform is packed in the panniers the night before. It takes me longer to get ready for coming home from work.

I always ride with spare tubes, puncture kit and multitool so there is never really any scrambling around for stuff.

For weekend/social rides about 30 mins - for work about 10 cos I lay all my kit out ready. So it's a case of throwing it on and away. I am a bit odd cos I lay it on the back of a dining room chair in the order it goes on. ie skin layers first, bib shorts/tights, etc etc finishing with shoes and overshoes if needed once I'm out the front door. ( I keep my bikes in the house - can't bear them to be in the shed!!!)

It takes me about 20 minutes during summer but 30 - 40 minutes during winter depending on how cold it is and how much I need to warm my feet up before going out.

STOP IT!!! NOOOOOO! She's coming :ohmy::ohmy:

I leave everything I need in a bag, apart from if I've been using multi-tool etc, so not very long at all. It's also my school bag though so longer when I've got to take all the damned books out. Might get another of the same bag though cos it's pretty good for cycling (thin but capacious, good chest strap stops almost all movement)

You northerners have it so easy. When I was a lad, I used to arrive before I had left having cycled through glass strewn roads, repaired punctures and taken a 3 mile detour because of the snow.:evil:

I'm very dubious about the claims that people can get out inside 5 mins.

Are you telling me that you don't take a piss/shoot/shave (women excepted)/breakfast/coffee/clean teeth?

Takes me about 45 mins from rolling out of bed but that includes; get breakfast ready for nipper and wife, prepare lunch for nipper and check nipper's day bag for going to childminder. Get own breakfast, shave, teeth clean, dressing in cycling kit. Final kit check. Get going.

I fear you have allowed yourself to become encumbered with technology:sad:

nope.. clipping on the Polar CS200 onto bike is the least of me problems....I am just slow and cautious and don't want to chuck up me breakkie.... I aint commutin' (if I did , I would always be late ! . or get no sleep ) .. cycling is for me always some form of training ride -be it easy or moderate hard going..
I agree with more technology even .. anyone want to donate a lovely Garmin...?

Er, I get dressed, which I'd have to do anyway, get on the bike, and go. Did I miss anything? Oh yes, I have to put my hat on. I wouldn't wear a hat if I wasn't cycling, so, However Long It Takes Me To Put My Hat On. Aka not long.

Up at 6:30 and on bike by 7:30. The 3s's followed by breakfast, walking the dog and acting as peacemeaker with some obscure argument between the kids

My Trikes are ready to go all of the time. The tyres get a quick glance to make sure they're round all the way round and not flat at the bottom. A water bottle or two gets filled and fitted into the cage(s) I switch on the AirZound and away I go.

Each one has it's own anti p***t*re kit on board and spare tubes etc. I check all six tyres every week or so and top up the Air Zound at the same time. I take that session as a chance to fettle any problems/adjust cables etc.

When I was riding two wheels I had five bikes and one trike and the same applied to all but one of my bikes. The holiday folder lived under the stairs and was only brought out a couple of times a year so it only got sorted each time I moved it.

Gettting dressed takes 5 minutes in the warmer weather and not a lot more on cold or wet days.

In the summer i live in cycle gear anyway so I jus tjump on and ride...but currently it does take while...I have the washable stuff inside and the waterproof stuff in the garage so I ge tdressed in two places...the biggest decision I take each day is ...wait for it...do I put in my contact lenses and ride or go with glasses and slob out...soon a sthey are in I am riding and there is no going back.

Alarm goes off at 6.45am and If I am not out by 7am I am stressed.
I pack the night before and leave my clothes drying on the Radiator from about 6pm so by the morning they are dry and warm.
I put my shoes on the rad about 6.50am while making lunch.
Then it's feed cats kiss kids and wife goodbye and struggle for 2mins getting bike out house and through back gate.

Then at work if i shower I will lock bike up, shower, change and be in work 30mins after riding past work (Showers and bike shelters are 1/3rd mile away)
Today though I wet wiped at work and washed hair in sink ! Got to desk 10 mins earlier but no where to secure bike.
