Amish Satnav! I like your thinking.

It will be a sad day when an Amish rides a bicycle.

They should know a bicycle is constructed in an elecrically powered factory with electrically powered welding machines. The cast components are from an electrically powered foundry. The rims are extruded aluminium alloy which is manufactered in an electrically powered smelting plant.

The rubber tyres are made of oil by-products. The plastic components are made of oil by-products and are molded in an electrically powered injection molding factory.

The electricity is generated using kerosene burning gas turbine engines ( or nuclear reaction heaters ).

So what would an Amish be doing on a bicycle?

Yes. I used this to measure a route from Fisherman's Wharf to Fairfax, Marin co. ( Golden Gate cyclepath and Bridgeway cyclepath )

Firstly, you HAVE to know where the cyclepaths are. It doesn't tell you.

Believe it or not you can get a pretty good estimate of mileage by following your route on an OS map and counting EVERY time the route crosses a blue grid line, even if it crosses briefly then dives back again. Divide the number by two and you'll have a pretty accurate mileage.

Don't ask me how it works; I just know it does.

Sod cycle paths.

After this talk of cyclepaths, I decided to take the 'recommended' cyclepath over the M42 footbridge to avoid the busy junction.

There is a spriral at each end that has about a 12% gradient. Its a low gear job climbing slowly, but a whizz round the far end back to road level.

Anyway. Some peanut had broken a bottle at the very bottom of the 'helter skelter' and I rode over it, gashing the front tyre and tube.

Walked the remaining 1.5 miles and trashed the tyre and tube.

New Gatorskin and tube out of stock.
