Mmm.....this weather is starting to get on my nerves now, just done three 12 hr shifts and was looking forward to
Increasing my mileage from 16.5 to around 20 today, but guess what it's raining and blowing a gale again, I'm off for 4 days now so just hope it improves for some of those days at least.

Some good news though, just recieved a letter from work asking me to join the cycle scheme again, now I've got the bike , end of feb ( bought it myself ), Soooo.....! Now I can spend the money on other kit, Errrm....what do I need ?......
First off, a turbo trainer, for days like these, then maybe, some summer, autumn, winter kit, erm..... Oh yes..
Maybe some clip less pedals and some shoes to start me on that journey, decent set of lights, new helmet.

Oh we'll, the thought of that has cheered me up slightly.

That's all for now, the giro starts at 1.30.

Thanks tony.

Yes - it's a load of tosh.

Been raining all day, just drying out now but I really want to settle down for the FA Cup Final.

If there is a god of weather then he is an irritating twonk.

Nowt wrong with really, just something you have to get use to. There will come a time when it really doesn't bother you as much, you just have to keep at it.

I think you are just trying to convince us Nigel  Afraid it really gets to me too and I think it always will. Not so much the rain but definitely the wind. I just get totally demoralised pushing into a headwind and feeling like I am getting nowhere, plus the fact that it seems to hurt my back, so going to have to disagree and say I will never get used to it.

Ditto: I don't even bother going into the mountains if it is too windy or any kind of wet. Makes what should be a pleasure a total chore.

It should be really good weather for the next 4 days, as I'm coming off rest days and back on shifts from tomorrow. From Thursday on it will be crap again.

I can really relate to that statement DRHysted, shift workers weather reports are always broadcast by the grim reaper I think, I don't want to say I hope your right , so I won't, leave it at that. Think turbo sales will be up this year though.

Hmmmmmm........... I've been keeping at it for over 50 years now, and if anything, the wind and rain gets to me even more as I get older! Outdoor activities of any kind are just so much more pleasant when the sun is shining and the weather is calm.
Cycling on scenic routes on a nice warm sunny day; or battling into a gale being soaked by the rain (and there is no such thing as waterproof clothing, it always finds a way in after a few miles) and not being able to see because of rain stinging your eyes? I know which one I prefer!
It's also more dangerous as you are less visible to blind car drivers in steamed up cars, and there is more risk of skidding on diesel and other slippery surfaces. Then there is the extra wear on bike components caused by the dirt and sludge picked up on your transmission, and wheel rims..... Arghhhhhhh!!
Possibly most importantly for some, cake/beer stops are restricted to places that don't mind you sitting on their furniture with the water running out of you.
What's to like about cycling in the rain?

There is a certain sense of achievement and satisfaction when you're finished. My mileage has been greatly down this year, almost entirely because of the weather. I've done a few gym sessions but nothing like enough. In the last few weeks I've picked it up a bit on the bike, but not as much as I'd like to. Today I went out early, rather fed-up with wind, cold and rain in the first few miles. It cleared up and warmed up a little on the way but the wind never went away. It ended up with one of the best times / speeds I've had this year and now sitting at home almost 10 hours later I feel very pleased I did it.

I thought about a turbo trainer but spent the money on a decent jacket and sealskin gloves instead. I got out for 25 miles today. Started into the wind so the return was great. I got wet but my jacket kept me warm and it will be dry and ready for me to wear again in the morning.
