Quick, simple and satisfying job last night, replace one of the bath taps ceramic cartridges, no more drippy tap.
Last time I brought one so e years ago( same tap) it was really quite expensive, like pushing £30 per cartridge. This time, £18 for the pair.

I haven't been crass enough to ask George and Mildred how much they got but I believe it was into the thousands.

Mine is now with the Consumer Council for Water, as Severn Trent are washing their hands of it

My drippy ceramic cartridge was fixed by just taking it apart and putting it back together. :okay:

Had a roof tile shift in Saturdays wind. It didn't come fully adrift and thankfully was not broken. Been up and replaced it carefully, with a bead of Sikaflex where it adjoins the neighbouring tiles - a bodge of the first water, but once dry you'd need explosives to shift it.

Replaced by Saniflo 21mm pipe all the way to the drain. First time using solvent welding. Im feeling very pleased with the job. In fact Im feeling very very good.

I did discover on old crack in an olf joint, and my push fit repair job of a few months ago was not the correct method.

I patched up some wallpaper that had been damp damaged behind a cupboard and disintegrated when cleaning was attempted.

Luckily the OH had kept the roll so I was able to tear and patch in a replacement piece, around a plug socket too! I was initially confused as the roll seemed to narrow by about 10mm, but miraculously it expands when one pastes it up  ^_^ . Quite pleased with the job, I think I last did some wallpapering in 1999, even though it will likely end up behind some furniture again when tenants move in.

At least it fitted. Quite a few different tops/heights these days. Had to butcher the latest replacement, only using one of the discs as the top where the tap handle slot's onto was totally different. Easy if you can turn the water off, go to the DIY store with cartridge, then come home. Having a family that start moaning once the electric or water goes off is a stress.

Had to turn the leccy off yesterday so I could re-route a wall light fitting. Son, aged nearly 23, kicked off like a 10 year old being asked to shut his PC off. Massive argument followed. Don't need it.

I tried to explain (several times) that water (unfortunately) is used to carry waster along in the pipes. and the kitchen sink drain has a very gentle slope before reaching the vertical main house drain. it's practically horizontal!

Last time i had to unclog my kitchen sink drain it looked like a mass of coffee grounds.

It was 'ground' alright, but mud rather than coffee; from scrubbing root veggie allotment produce clean!

My belief (could be incorrect of course) is that the ideal drop on a drainage pipe is 1 in 40, and can be attributed to the Romans! If steeper any 'solids' are overtaken by the water and left behind - any shallower and they move (eventually) but can of course accumulate. Darned clever them Romans.
only edited to remove a typo - that's autocorrect for you

It did occur to me to strip it down but tbh, I thought it would be a waste of time. Next time then....

Yup, started with correct size (3/4) then the spline count, then physical sizes. It took far far longer to extract the old cartridge, measure, check, using the camera function to see how many splines etc ...refit , than it did to fit the replacement...let alone wading through online offerings, trying to match it up.

ource the right one online

regardless, some items, are now going in the trash, instead of down our kitchen drain, even with the waste disposal unit. such as carrot peelings

I've returned....... It seems (for the timebeing anyway) our Internet now works again. Your shower tray - Is it a resinstone one? The choice is baffling, and I need to get one for my daughter's (new to her) house, so am looking for recommendation that isn't as expensive as Justtrays! It's taken several hours to remove the wetroom tray that was fitted (right next to the window....why?) and then correct the floor because the joists were 9mm out of flat (dip in the middle of room) across 1.93M!
