Doesn't look like there are spacers. I guess the O ring AP mentioned is number 5 which I'll check for in the morning. So does that mean the gap is normal?

Hmmm strange the double/compact doesn't have the spacer and the triple does ( which is what mine is so explains why mine has one and not yours ) I would have expected the opposite.

So seems like yours is ok then

Dont worry about a small gap as long as the plastic clip has dropped down into position... the one in the middle of the 2 pinch bolts.

HTII road BBs don't use any spacers unless it's for a triple.
The o-ring that has been mentioned is factory fitted to the cranks, and isn't something that needs to be worried about.
Make sure the BB cups are tight to the correct torque.
The crank appears to not be sitting far enough onto the BB axle, release the 2 allen bolts, and see if the crank will slide on further, and then tighten allen bolts again. I agree that the gap appears to be too big, but if the BB shell of the frame is a few mm too short (i.e. someone has been heavy handed when facing it) this could explain the larger gap and there would in that case be nothing you can do about it.
Don't know what all this talk of being cross-threaded is all about!!!!!
Is that an Ultegra 6700 chainset too?

I just fitted a Tiagra Hollowtech 2 triple chainset to my bike today. The triple has a 6.5mm on the drive side (is already in place on the crank), the non-drive side has a 3mm included to fit. I was a bit confused as the tech doc mentioned some ring or something that was not included with the chainset for the non-drive side. This website clarified it for me and it works fine, never had to adjust the front mech or anything. If it's a compact I am not sure.

It's Sora.
although all Shimano 'road' HTII BBs and chainsets should be compatible, IME if you mix them, things like the 'little gaps' you have had trouble with do seem to appear - I always keep the chainset and BB matching for this reason.
