How long was he immobile for? I suppose the younger you are the faster you get back to normal.
24 hours. The idea is a patient should be up and moving ASAP. He was allowed home as soon as he could show he was able to walk upstairs on crutches. Took 4, perhaps 5, days. He practicised this before the operation so it wouldn't be a new thing to learn.

This was at Wrightington. Best in the UK.

A letter arrived today asking me to choose 1 of 4 hospitals for my appointment. Blackburn, Accrington, Clitheroe or a private one in Blackburn. I can't make my mind up which to choose.🤔
Which is the best turned out?

Wonderful! I've just spotted a letter behind my door from the NHS. An appointment has been arranged for me on the 10th of January at Burnley General. So why did they send a letter the other day offering me a choice of 5?!🤔 If I had to put the 5 in order of preference Burnley would be the 5th as it's the furthest away and the parking around the hospital is diabolical! So let me see someone with a bad hip (me) now has to walk about half a mile to reach the hospital!

Does the hospital not have parking? Weren’t you applying for a blue badge…if so, you should be able to park rather closer.
Or you could just call up on Tuesday and request a change. Might have to wait longer though? They’ve clearly given you the soonest

I'll phone them on Tuesday. They might have a slot closer to home. On the other hand I could ask for ambulance transport. I've used them in the past when having a hip and leg appointment. My leg hurts now after a few minutes of driving and it takes half an hour to drive to Burnley hospital. Maybe an ambulance to Burnley would be the best thing to do.

You’ll be lucky these days! Can someone give you a lift?

My neighbour who's partially sighted used ambulance transport last week. I think it depends on the area you're in regarding availability.
Fair enough, can only ask

Best to phone asap as then there'll be more chance of getting one. As for getting a lift off a friend, the only friends I have/know that have a car will be working the day of the appointment. The friends who don't work and could/would take me don't have cars. Mind you there is one who has a motorbike, but I don't think riding to a hip replacement consultation as a pillion passenger on a motorbike would be wise.^_^

Do they have licenses, if you really can’t drive, you could always add to the insurance for the day :okay:
How do you work on your feet in a shop if you can’t stand/walk?

I've just heard Olympic medalist Sharon Davies on the radio saying that losing a pound of body fat reduces 6 pounds of pressure on your hips and 4 pounds on your knees. It makes me wonder how my hip and 'dynamic screw' would've help up if i'd been overweight?🤔

My concerns about my forthcoming hospital appointment are that the consultant will suggest physiotherapy rather then surgery due to me not being overweight. I'm 6 foot tall and weigh exactly 11 stones. Will I be penalised due to me not being overweight I wonder?🤔
