Also the Lancaster to Clitheroe road, it climbs 900 ft up into the Bowland fells before going through the Trough of Bowland.

Done two major climbs on the ride of the roses which uses this route upto york. Greenhow hill was a toughy!

May go to the rake tomorrow (weather dependent). Didn't ride today so I think I'll need a long hard route tomorrow. It is a very good hill though, just thought I'd explore some other hills over my half term that aren't 1mile from my house.

Impressive stats. You learn any tactics for that climb then since you done it a few times and watched some others?

Well the first bit you get onto gets fairly steep, so you may need to get out the saddle for that, then you've got a "flattish" bit where you can get your breathe back, then it'll curve upwards where the 25% is. Keep a rhythm and get out of the saddle before you hit the 25% or it just slows me right down.

First times I tried it I was always sprinting up the first bit which tired me out and led me to stopping at the steep bit.

Ofcourse the people who seem to be doing it in 2mins are sprinting all the way up it.

Mike Vaughan. Great shop.

They sold me a 17lb Spesh SWorks for £900.

They bunged a tenner in my LEJOG charity fund ( Marie Curie ) and gave my two inner tubes, just in case.

How the hell does he do it, ???

There's bugger all steep hills for fifty miles around Berkswell.
Not strictly true - for example, the Malvern Hills are only 40 miles away!

The climbs there might not be as steep as Ramsbottom Rake, but I'm sure that you could still get some good climbing training in.

Hmm, I've only been to the Malverns once and that was at night, by car (to watch Magazine at Malvern Winter Gardens). I quite fancy cycling down there on one of my regular visits to Coventry. Perhaps we could organise a suitable CycleChat forum ride next year? We could work out a really good imperial century route from the cyclists' memorial at Meriden.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out which is the hardest one of those, Great Dun Fell is long but not excessively steep.

All I know is that it'll be a hard week

Hardknott from Eskdale is the hardest thing I've been over in terms of requiring brute strength. Great Dunn Fell by contrast is exceptionally long by British standards, and has the habit of surprising you with 20-25% sections where they are least expected. Both are hard but in different ways. They would qualify as two of the hardest British climbs to my mind.

I've sussed where he trains.

On the downward travelator in the Coventry IKEA, after some speed adjustment.
