I think strava have fixed it now but 12 years ago I was working in Essex for a few week and I got all excited about a 40% gradient. Only to find it was a pan flat bridge which barely raised above bank level. I think Strava was using the base of the river to the top of the bank elevation difference to calculate its gradient figure.
