The big mirrors are completely obscuring his side view. Truck design is all wrong. They need to get with the times.

The A-pillar and mirror cluster is going to limit his view when taking the left turn and "could" have obscured the motorcyclist. He’s also likely to be checking his nearside mirror immediately before taking the turn so could have missed him on the approach. He takes the turn relatively quickly and is unable to swing out further to the right prior to taking the turn as a skip truck is coming in the opposite direction and he does not wait for it to pass. You often see HGV drivers ride over the pavement on tight corners like this, but there is a woman with a pram at the junction…

I doubt the motorcyclist would have seen the indicators until after he shoulder checks at approx. 6 secs and by the then the HGV is heading straight for him. In real time, it happens very quickly.

HGV cab re-design cannot come soon enough as these vehicles are compromised in urban areas and their drivers are subject to mistakes and cognitive overload.

I mean, you should never drive in such a way that forces another vehicle to have to take avoiding action, at least I seem to remember being told that when I learnt to drive many years ago.
that must be one of the crappest bits of driving of all time - anyone got a location for this I would be interested to see it from the drivers point of view as to why he was taking such a bad line.
There's building work going on in the house the biker had just passed. Driver was intending to park outside there.

Staggeringly easy to see how that can happen and absolutely terrifying !

I like to think I'd be able to hop out of the way but ....

I've never struggled to hold a clutch and use a horn at the same time.

can't say I've tried, but in the circumstances I'd be pulling both levers and would have to think to twiddle my thumb round as well. Come to think of it had to think about where the horn button was ! A big push button in the middle of the steering wheel is so much more instinctive and satisfying

Very much so!

I've rode motorcycles longer than I have driven cars for, and daily commuting around Manchester City Centre, you very quickly get used to using a clutch and a horn at the same time
