Had a hernia op at the end of October that is still causing me pain. It was a two sided operation, with one side being a repair of a previous operation, and its the repaired side that is causing the most pain at the site of the hernia.

I am able to go back down the gym OK, and dig my allotment, but cycling really irritates it (feels like the mesh they put in is rubbing against some nerves).

I'm currently cutting back on the cycling, and trying to be patient with it, but it's not ideal. The doctor can find any problem with the surgery, so hopefully it will ease in time.

Yes it was at least a year before all discomfort settled down. I still get the odd twinges 30+ years later when heavy lifting

Pretty much the same as this. I had one 20yrs ago; had to take it steady in the months afterwards and it would often give a dull ache to let me know it was there.

The frequency of these instances gradually decreased and now I can't remember the last time I had one. I think the 2-3" long scar's completely gone too, now

Had one about 8 years ago. I can't remember now the recovery period in terms of lifting things, but I do know I was back on my bike doing 30 mile rides in about 5 weeks.
I still occasionally feel something inside me. It isn't painful, more a discomfort, but it is a reminder and if it repeats has me a little concerned.

Had a message for the hospital asking how urgent I felt my upcoming ops are and can I give a reason if I thought they are.
As my inguinal hernia has become difficult to manage on a daily basis and the aneuryism surgeon had booked me for an operation within three months in February, I responded er, yes - !
I appreciate that it was a 'round robin' message to endeavour to classify urgent / non urgent cases, but look at the notes from the flippin' surgeons before you press 'send' - !

Yup, that matches my experience. Had the repair about 25 years ago and had regular twinges for ages afterwards, but at gradually increasing intervals.
For some reason I decided to christen the hernia Little Ern. The wee fecker never brought me sunshine, though.

discovered my Hernia in September and am still waiting for a proper consultation with a specialist. I might have to chase them up but I'm not looking forward to the operation or the time off work I'll need because my fecking employer doesn't believe i'm worthy of their sick-pay, so it'll cost me a small fortune in lost earnings.

Do you know a private consultation with a specialist costs around £200-250.

They can be able to guide you how serious and whether urgent care is needed. They will often furnish you with a letter, stating the urgency if needed so you are placed in the system faster.

You could if desired have the surgery done privately too. You can pretty much select the date you will want the operation
