It all seems a bit stalkerish to me and don't take this the wrong way but might highlight another underlying issue. Sure it's okay to be concerned but tracking seems a bit over kill. The map thing Robert mentioned seems like a good idea though.

I'm with Rob3rt here. I tend to leave the route I am doing on the computer and give our lass an estimate of how long I will be. I also take my phone with me so if there is an issue at either end we can contact each other. This is mainly done so she can come collect me if I have a mechanical, she is glad to get me out of the house most of the time.

My wife worries too - although she worries less now it's 2 years on and I've only had one 'proper' accident.

I do tell here where the destination is, but that's about all. However, I also carry on me a printed card with emergency contact/medical/doctor details.

Story is the wife worries when I'm out on the bike and I was wondering if there is a standalone unit that offers real time tracking.
I have endomondo on the iphone but it drains my battery something ridiculous

If there is something my wife can log onto and see I'm moving will put her mind at ease and I can go out on the bike for longer runs.

Any help is much appreciated

Cheers

Why not buy a portable battery pack for your phone? Depending on the length of ride and capacity of the battery it should last hours.

have a looksie here

ha some great replies there gents made me laugh, just to be clear she isnt a stalker,
I have been knocked off my bike a few times and once was a very close call so went onto mountain biking for a few years and didnt really enjoy it, so back to the road and the concession is that when im out and forget what time it is she can check where i am just for her own peace of mind, and to stop her phoning me to see that im ok.
I like the id tag ideas however that would only work if im not in the best of circumstances and im sure she would want to know but not the best phone call to get.
i dont want something to track my phone as that is single white female territory and she doesnt want that either (although actually thinking about it i can track hers as she lost hers a while ago and i added find my phone on her new one)
Ideally what i am looking for is something that i can use to track my rides and analyse when im home, something she can log into if im later than i said i would be to check im not in a ditch somehwere, as i do ahem on occasion forget where i am as the wind is flowing through my hair as i cycle to my hearts content (or more accurately freeze my ass off but still want to do a few more miles)

I use endomondo and that is superb although it drains the life out of the battery and would prefer to have the phone available if i need it.

Cheers

ive had a quick look around and came across this, it looks ideal for what you are after, unfortunately its not free, but only costs a few pounds, so wont break the bank.

the real answe is to get her a bike and ride together:bicycle:
Well my wife hasnt been on a bike in a good 20 years and despite buying her one will not sit her erse on it,. we have two young kids and its difficult getting time htogether without them and im sure that getting on a bike and cycling would not be high up on her agenda, i dont mind that as i can then go where i please.

So i guess that there isnt a standalone device that can map in real time then, im quite surprised at that really

Battery pack for the phone sounds like the best idea and drop her a quick text every hour or so?
took your advice and bought a veho pebble, means i can continue to use endomondo and the good lady can rest easy - simples
dont know why i said that i hate those little rats:cursing:

Of course, that assumes that the app doesn't quietly shut down, as happened when I was on the Dunwich Dynamo last year
