Story is the wife worries when I'm out on the bike and I was wondering if there is a standalone unit that offers real time tracking.
I have endomondo on the iphone but it drains my battery something ridiculous

If there is something my wife can log onto and see I'm moving will put her mind at ease and I can go out on the bike for longer runs.

Any help is much appreciated

Cheers

findmyiphone would do it, she can log on from a pc and track you that way

not designed for that but it should work

Glympse app works really well but not sure on its power usage

On the ID theme I wear DOGTAGS when I'm out.

Hugely customisable and also inexpensive too, win win.

Ditto, Ask her to invite you to Join Google Maps "latitude".

Latitude allows friends to track each others locations in real time (excellent for finding mates at Gigs!!).

she'll need to invite or accept your invite to be tracked/track.

*edit* just remember to turn it off when you escape down the pub after telling her you have an important work meeting. Actually my wife would never fall for that, I'd probably rock up to find her there too having her own important meeting with a glass of Merlot.

Print a map of the route you will follow (or email a link to the route map on whatever website you use to plot routes), provide an estimated arrival time, the longest time it will take you, always extend the duration, so you don't need to rush, ruining your ride. Leave it with her.

Quite frankly I find the need to track your every move to be verging on obsessive and I would find this to impede on my enjoyment of riding.

If my partner requested this, I would tell her, if she wants to track my every turn, she can get her bike out and train on it until she can keep up, then ride with me! Else, she can do with the map!
