If you want a cap have a snout round the airline station at a garage. there is usually a couple that drivers have forgotten to refit!

It would be handy if you could remove the valve core, clean it & put it back. For this you would need a valve tool, all good bike shops,& car accessory shops,as it is essentially the same as a car valve, keep these. Also if there is a car tyre shop nearby,it would take seconds to remove & refit. One last option, scout round some of the older cars parked up,it was not uncommon for a valve key to be incorperated into the cap.

Thanks for all of the advice - very much appreciated.

I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on!

No problem!

I need to learn these things anyway - all good experience.

Though someone might need to remind me of that when I am cursing the tyre later today.

Near Broxbourne, in Hertfordshire...

You have the LBS up on the High Road at Broxbourne, used to be Cycledaelia. I ride that way a lot, but unfortunately not today.

Thanks guys.

Bizarrely, I had a look at the valve and the middle part seemed to be stuck down. I shoved it with a paper clip and it's started working again!
