If you know what's good for you ...
It was an opinion someone aired on a French forum - I read all the posts and found that most people disagreed with it. I'll put some on.
I recover my bike in ten days (I'm away in Sunny Quimper next week!) I'll update you all then.

Happy Christmas to everyone!

Just to update you all. My lbs managed to remove the siezed bottom bracket - although it apparently took him several attempts. He did this without resorting to heat: just a long-handled tool that clamps to the bottom bracket enabling him to use maximum leverage without slippage. He only charged me €10 for the job, which was much cheaper than a new frame!
The bb was more knackered than I imagined it would be - it was very grainy, as though there were loads of small stones in it. I was sure glad I went to all that bother when I saw how bad it was!
Once again, thanks for all your help!
