That (average 15ish mph) is pretty damm good full stop.
What bike did you do it on ??
Please dont tell me it was a 1975 15 speed clanker

Wow. Good work. Time to leave beginners group.

Don't get a road bike, you'd go too fast

That's a great time, you're off to a cracking start!

Training plan.... map out a few different routes around your area. Start at your current 30 miles, and if you've got energy to spare at the end of the ride, make the next one 5 miles longer. If you can maintain a 15mph pace for 30 miles, you'll probably get up to 50 mile distance (maybe a tad slower) without much problem. Then it's time to go exploring - by trial and error you'll soon discover some favourite routes and maybe some new bits of countryside you've never been to! Don't get too hung up on average speeds and whatnot, just put the miles in and enjoy the riding, from the sounds of it you will soon be irritatingly fast ;)

Sorry to put a dampener on this thread - but there's no way this makes any sense. That's the speeds I get on my road bike and I have been cycling for two years! He's looking for praise surely! 15mph avg speed is too fast for a mountain bike, especially as the OP says he's a 'fat' man and that's his first ride!

On the other hand he could be fat and fit, or have semi slicks on the bike, or he pushed himself harder than you (or I) do.

Sorry that as a teenager and into my early 20's I was a very good runner and did times like sub 30 10k whereas you've cycled for two years! I think this has something to do with it.......... Plus I'm a man not a woman like you so will have much more power...........
