Then realise that if you have an oval head you should have bought Giro, or thatthe Giro you bought is uncomfortable as you have the wider head that would have been better served by a MET... or the wider head that Specialized design.

Helmets should always be worn and fitted before purchase as if it is not fitting properly and comfortable it will not offer the protection it should.

true, but i have the privilage to try on lids when i want and i still cant always source the perfect one. its one of those subjects that can drag out long and tedious debates in a pub. At the end of the day what really irks me is riders who buy a helmet and think it looks good on their handlebars:rolleyes:

Depending upon average temps in China when you are riding, get a well vented one, and use it with a skull cap or buff under to soak up sweat.

I wore a skull cap under by helmet this morning. My body sweated more than usual.

Then I remembered an Anthropology lecturer saying "The braincase or cranium is the human being's 'radiator'."

Then I remembered when I rode MotoX. Did we sweat?

Keep it well ventilated.

I believe ALL helmets sold in the UK have to meet a certain EU standard.
See the link in my first post above

HOWEVER, it will be made to a price, so might not be very light / comfortable / vented etc.

Isn't the current EU standard lower than the old British and present US standard ?

Helmets can vary quite a bit in how easy they are to adjust, and to fit properly you do need to adjust them. The cheapest ones as Asda don't tend to have any adjustment at the back of the head, and can have fiddly adjustments by the ear.

My previous helmet was a MET, and I bought a Specialized one as it met a higher standard from what I could find out. But I'm just not finding it as comfortable to wear (yes I did try it on, but I mean wear for an hour or more), and I keep accidently undoing the adjustments by the ear.

I don't think I've seen helmets have both built in but I've seen a fair few with the rear led built in like this one.

Thanks for the info HLaB, I'v tied on a couple od cheap LED lights from Tescos but can't understand why no manufacturer has not produced a real good quality winter/dark night helmet c/w lights yet....

Hi

I had an accident on a bike earlier last year as you may know, and the fact of not having a helmet on nearly cost me my life. I now have a Helmet, but do find it hard work to get into the habbit of wearing it even now, so do sympatise with all the anti helmet people, but they do a good job when worn, and just think is not wearing one worth the hassel it could cause you or your family in the event of a serious accident?

Cheers

Dave

There are options such as this Helmet visibilty aid

led-helmet-marker-strip-1.jpg

Also there re lights that will fulfil the red and white LED and helmet attachment such as the BLT Helmet Light

Topeak also do a similar item - The HeadLux

However do be aware that there is a suggestion that these lights when helmet fitted may compromise the function of the helmet.
