If people have something other than a roadie, there are some excellent choices. Well, you can, of course, do them on road bikes, just that treaded tyres and 36 spoke wheels help with the confidence.

I was going to say no for a minute but ive got a beast of a Carrera mountain bike in the garage the Mrs uses it now so its got an uber comfy saddle but weighs a tonne lol

You shouldn't need to go that far, Mark, just that some of the roads have very poor surfaces and there always a chance to take to a path.

This could be just the excuse I need to dust off the Jekyll. Admittedly, a 5" all-mountain full-susser is a tad overkill for poor surfaces and a few leaves, but might be better than sliding into a ditch on the TCR. GP4000s might have Black Chili or whatever, but wet leaves and potholes are not their forte. It'll be my turn to be purple and out of breath if it's me on the Jekyll and Norm on his TryAndMakeMeCross.

Lol i had a blast round the block on her bike the other day it felt like using a car with the power stearing pump broke i used to do 50-75 miles + a week on that thing just for leisure. I quite fancy an off road (ish) hack at somepoint if anyone is keen.
