If one gets bitten by a dog, can you report the incident to the police? Can you get the dog to be put down?

Space hoppers don't squeak - most bikes do and I've heard that's what spooks some dogs into chasing the moving prey..

Got seriously mauled by 2 alsations near Ham Street, Kent last year. Was crossing a field and they flew at me out lone house's garden which backed onto the field. Couldn't run as field was recently ploughed and I was on canal edge. Put bike between me and the brutes but it didn't take them long to work out that they could attack from 2 sides and get me. Next thing I'm face down in the dirt with alsation fangs in the backs of both calves. Owner came out and got them off - hugely apologetic obviously - but pointed out I'd strayed off the public right of way on other side of canal. Wasn't on her land either, so I'd have a massive case for compensation, but didn't pursue as would have meant dogs put down and one old lady with a sister with Alzheimers then unprotected in an isolated rural location.

Dog bites carry serious infection risks - one leg blew up to worrying diameter and I was off work for 2 weeks on crutches. Just as wellwe don't have rabies over here!

Electronic dog scarers carry a disclaimer - 'may not work against more aggressive breeds' ie the ones we need them to work against! I'm not interested in zapping next door's poodle!

I had to jump off once as a pit bull type dog chased me, then I picked up the recumbent and tried to chainsaw it with the front to get rid of it. The funniest thing was the male owner's high pitched terrified squeeking as he tried to get the dog away from me to prevent it being injured.

Oh, a funny thing to do is to get the dog to follow you, almost within reach. Sometimes you can get the dog a mile away from the owner, who now has to run after you.

I have to admitt, my dog likes to chase bikes... well, not just cycles but anything moving that has wheels, be it skateboards, wheelie-bins, scooters... I've always been concious of it and kept him under control, he's a big lad, 3 year old 12stone Rottweiler. He's gotten better and doesn't bother much now.
He did it in a nasty way, more of a playful thing.

All the bloody time!
It is one of my pet hates (no pun intended).
As I have said in the past, you could go past on any form of transport, like pogostick, spacehopper etc. and they pay no attention.
Go past on a bike and all of a sudden, they seem to want to kill you!
Could never work it out.

My own dog hates seeing meon my bike but takes no notice of other cyclists when out for walks even when off his lead!
