The difficult bit is finding two words which are actually words and which cross appropriately. And you can't just bung in your favourite default words because of the crossing limitation.

Put two words in which span most of the big 10 letters (ETAOIN SHRDLU is my mnemonic - thanks to Douglas Hofstadter), and see where that gets you.

Yes, I got lucky, but there are a handful of common end phonemes, and it's rare to have more than two consonant phonemes in succession, and very rare to have more than one vowel (at least in American English - southern British English is chock full of them...)

Blimey. I'm trying to avoid the ones I think I know and solve the hardest ones first. So I actually solved bottom left first but didn't want to waste a go putting it in until I had some more clue about the others. I might be overthinking it which is something I've resolved not to do on the original game.

I quite enjoy Quordle, but I find it too opaque in terms of sharing - I mean, you could study the patterns closely, but that way madness lies. Other people's journeys through the puzzle don't have the same legibility as they do in Wordle. Anyway after some fairly hamfisted early attempts, I now do the opposite of what you describe and try and get the easy wins out of the way - at some point you've got to 'waste' a go on the answer anyway. But I wouldn't take my advice anyway - I've never done it in less than eight, and usually use all nine.

Nerdle feels to be more about grinding out the answer than Wordle, which I find encourages intuitive leaps. I don’t think I will bother every day.
