My sister in Towcester has lost fence panels on one side of her back garden, and a fence panel on the other side was mounted on top of a low wall and the flapping of the panel was enough to break the wall!Wild around here today. Strong gusty wind with hail & rain.
And tragedy of tragedies......we are about to lose a fence panel.
My phone BBC forecast show the winds as being light through next week.My sister in Towcester has lost fence panels on one side of her back garden, and a fence panel on the other side was mounted on top of a low wall and the flapping of the panel was enough to break the wall!
I found a roll of draught excluder that I had forgotten buying. I have put strips of that round the door to my attic stairs and have reduced the draught by about 80%.
I have just seen the forecast for the weekend - 'Storm Dennis' is coming next!

While I was looking for lidless bins I spotted quite a lot of wheelie bins strewn about on their sides in the back alley. Mine is safely tucked away in the corner of my enclosed yard but it did appear to have blown about a metre or so from where I'd left it on Friday.Resorted to a rarely used gas fire as it was 14.5 when I got in, now switched off with the thermometer on 17.5 before E-on rub their hands too much. Put wheelie bin out for collection tomorrow, big thud, wheelie bin on side, sliding noise and the lid popped open, wheelie bin stood up and repositioned on the other side of a short hedge, curtains drawn. Assuming it will still be their in the morning.
A pal of mine has a small 12v wind turbine at his cottage on the cliffs in Pembrokeshire. One very windy day it was spinning like mad and he noticed strands of brown stuff streaming out of the back of the alternator, which he realised was the resin insulation from the windings. Deciding he had better stay away he watched through the bathroom window as the alternator overheated and seized and the blades flew off, one slicing through one of the steel guys allowing the mast to break and the turbine to topple slowly over, the boss punching a neat hole in the roof of his new Passat estate. Oops.
Blinkin eck.....you have horses in your house?
its quite a common occurrence.A full size wind turbine at Washington, Tyne and Wear, caught fire a few years ago.
It was a windy day so the fire may have been caused the same way.
