Ditch a set of tyres that have done 2600 miles without so much as one puncture? They're your lucky tyres, man. They're faithful old friends. I hope they forgive you for having such evil thoughts 😉
They've proved themselves for my use at least. I've already ordered a pair to have as spares while they're still in stock.

Veering insanely off topic

Slashdot managed to pass me by, whatever it is/was but I'm a massive Calvin and Hobbes fan and this rang a bell immediately. Took a bit of searching, but ... from 1986

Thanks for the cartoon. Slashdot was (is?) a nerd news message board, where the you insensitive clod was a common meme, which possibly originated with the cartoon you posted.

I've just fetched a bike from my mum for my wife to use. My mum bought the bike the same day I got my first MTB, which I reckon was roughly 1989. I pumped up the tyres and (so far) they appear to be fine. No wear on them, but I was expecting the rubber to be borked!

I don't have a turbo, you insensitive clod.

(This joke will probably only make sense if you used to read Slashdot)
Nope. Sorry. Slashdot? Never heard of it.
I'm off to work out if I should be offended of pleased.

Decided the Vittorio ones on my road bike needed replacing as the side walls are cracking so a trip to Spa for a couple of Schwalbe folding at £20 each; unfortunately had to be done by car as I have pulled an achilles tendon. Bit of confusion as they are being rebranded as Schwalbe One and the descriptive label only says ONE with no reference to Schwalbe. The goods door was open and right across the entrance bar a passageway were ceiling high boxes of Shimano parts; no shortage seemingly but odds on the part wanted is on the box at the bottom of the pile.

Am generally in agreement with most on here I think.
Am shocked that you are even considering dumping them CR.
Don't know how many bikes you have but they could have years left in them yet.
I'd expect nicks like that after a couple of london rides or a hasty shave.

In short, sod how tyres look - just keep riding until you get repeated punctures where you are sure you have removed the puncturing item - then you know they are shot.

Before any ride of any great length turn the bike over and check the nicks for bits lodged in - I flick any out with the shiny non-sharp flatblade screwdriver on the swiss army knife I keep in my seatpack.

Have even been known to check tyres at lunch stops if I have been over dodgy glassed pits or gravel where there may be flints.

This practice means I get very few punctures indeed - can't remember the last one - most punctures are caused I think not by sudden piercings but by stuff gradually working its way through a tyre. Am convinced that this is what causes most punctures on group rides - if more folk checked their tyres before a day-ride we'd all be in the pub much earlier.

Keep a good eye on the sidewalls, particularly as the tyres get very old. For the above meany-method means they may go before the road contact surface is really worn through.

particularly as the tyres get very old.
If you have to worry about 'tyres getting very old' you've not been riding that bike enough, either because you've not been riding enough or because you have too many bikes and not enough love (riding hours) to allocate to the aging tyred one.
Bang on regarding tyre care and inspection regime though. Periodically scrub those tyres clean, dry them off, and inspect/remove surface penetrations.

I inspect the tyres weekly, and up to that point there had been no signs of wear. I thought I would ask for CCs opinion because of sudden onset.

too many bikes
I'll be in touch with the mods to get you banished.

(I have close to ten - and some of the tyres are particularly old as I have taken them off but not dumped them - in a dark cool garage for temporary use)
