Either you and david k are sharing an incorrect assumption, or you are being a bit cryptic...Trouble is helmet wearers dont give a toss about compulsion do they adrian ?

I have made it quite clear in this thread and others that I do sometimes wear a helmet and sometimes don't and no those decisions are not logical at all.

I have no problem with you choosing to wear or not wear a helmet - or lycra! Both feel good to a good many cyclists. But there is a general feeling - which you appeared to share - that there was a strong safety issue with helmets. This logically leads to a community seeing the non-wearing as deliberately endangering and for the more authoritarian a target to stop.I also dont see why my own beliefs and decision, however wrong you feel it is, could in any way contribute to compulsion, thats why I say there are posters who are paranoid about this.
Not sure I can think about why Ive made the decision, I may base my decisions on the most foolish reasons, but they are my reasons and make sense to me, maybe there will come a time when I see it differently like oldmanroad, but for now im happy with my decision
See adrian can t be sure one way or the other, so he has to go on the offensive.Either you and david k are sharing an incorrect assumption, or you are being a bit cryptic...
Is that a fancy word for someone who hasn't told you the route goes up the Devil's Staircase?

I have no problem with you choosing to wear or not wear a helmet - or lycra! Both feel good to a good many cyclists. But there is no hint of compulsion felt (outside clubland) for wearing lycra. I don't wear a helmet. That precludes me from various rides which have no added injury risk. Not wearing a helmet gets me a lot of tut tutting and misrepresentation on my commitment to safety. I shall be taking my grandson out on a tag-along next year. He will have a helmet. Its not to protect his head, its to protect me from being regarded me as an unfit grandparent.
Sadly I really wish that sentence was over the top. But paranoia is OK when they are really out to get you ...
