Whilst we are a long way from being hard up I have gotten well and truly fed up with the constant trickle of money shelled out for 'the last thing I need'.

Apart from my initial purchase of bike, shoes, SPD's, saddlebag, multi tool, cages, bottles, gilet, CO2 pump & helmet I have sinced bought:

Different (SH56) cleats,

Waterproof jacket,

Nice and comfy padded shorts,

Track pump,

Workstand (pricey but worth it),

Lubes various,

Cycling specific glasses,

Little rubber cable protectors (rip off price),

Heli-pads,

Lizard Skin chainstay protector,

Various brake blocks and shoes to solve brake squeal (sorted and blissfully silent),

New saddle,

New seat post,

Gel mitts,

2 cycling tops,

And today a pair of Altura tights - I have lost some weight and my old Ronhills that I have been wearing are a tad loose now!

***

Is that the end of it?
I dont see a long list of bikes,a full tool kit, untold spares, multitudes of saddles, all manner of clothing etc, etc. In short,No ,that will not be it:laugh:

You could always take up chess, it is a lot cheaper. Not much equipment to buy there. As for biking..... well..... my wife is always asking me when I am going to stop buying "new things".

And in a country without a comprehensive medical system, you can always talk about health benefits saving money. My Health Maintenance Organization encourages and promotes this, and my wife's swimming isn't cheap, either. Although I have a lot of experience finding and restoring second hand bikes, accessories, and equipment . For a long time, "flipping" financed the cycling, until everyone got into it. And in direct answer to your question, no. (You need to find and restore an old bike, so you can have something for "vintage events". This will start you down the slippery N+1 slope rather handily, I think.)

In science a gas expands to fill all available space. In cycling 'goodies' expand to the size of your wallet plus 10%^_^

I'm only just starting but have discovered that the list is endless, but on a good point I love seeing new shiny bits attached to the bike, get a real feeling of achievement when I upgrade a piece of kit, good job really isn't it

I've been cycling seriously for three years now, I have a full carbon road bike, flashy jerseys new & retro, all the bits you could imagine that anyone would need but STILL I trawl websites looking at nice shiny things that I want, whether I can afford it or not. So the simple answer is no !!
Damn you, god of cycling bits !!! Damn you !!!
