Has fashion in cycling gone too far?

Tbh I'm sick of the likes of Rapha pushing such unattainable body images upon their clientele..

I understand what your saying. It's the argument applied to female fashion models. In my club we have a lot of members who could model for Rapha but far more who couldn't on the current selection basis.

My issue with Rapha is the company has made a loss seven years in a row. Yet it is the seller of the self-styled "world's finest cycling clothing." If it is that good why aren't riders buying it, aside from the price?

Personally I would put Assos streets ahead of Rapha. I've only bought their bibshorts but if I could afford jerseys, jackets etc. I wouldn't hesitate to buy Assos.

Another company that shows Rapha a clean pair of heels. It's a small, backstreet factory on the outskirts of north Manchester. Everything is handmade. The quality and service is simply outstanding. Lusso's environmental policy is fantastic. Yes, the kit can be expensive but there are lower cost options. Lusso is so good I swapped from Assos bibshorts to theirs.....after 25 years with Assos.

I ripped up my favourite jersey in an RTC. Four days before my 70th birthday my buddies rang Lusso. "Is it available?" The answer was no but when the owner was told the story not only did he make a single jersey he discounted it as well.

Companies selling high end kit could learn a lot from their smaller rivals.

EDIT @wafter you'll like this. Lusso repair kit free of charge in the 12 months after purchase. After that there is a small charge. I had a hole in a £65 gilet repaired for £15. A pair of biblongs repaired free.

Federico Ciampella’s videos are always engaging, but this one showed how unfashionable I am

Who wears white socks in winter? And while £250+ jerseys are pretty pricey, wearing socks over your bib tights takes the biscuit

I'm not sure riding around busy urban areas clad entirely in black while holding and talking to a camera is a good plan.

Myself I don't have an issue with what is described as "fashion." I'm not sure it is fashion. If I can buy quality kit, in a colour I like, I'm happy. Quality is always top of my list.

I concur on the camera thing, which seems a very poor idea in any road situation, urban or otherwise. In his defence, however, he does have active front and rear lights, which is generally said to be far more effective, certainly more important, than various forms of coloured clothing.

Yes, I agree entirely, especially for spotting a rider from distance. I know my lights are effective 2 - 300 metres ahead. I do feel in low light conditions, especially in urban areas, a solid colour is easier to pick out than black.

Very probably, especially when it's pink, though the otherwise bizarre and irritating 'white socks outside bibtights' look does have the advantage of providing a pair of bright-ish, moving things to draw the attention of other road users.

Or wear those yellow/reflective things just above the ankles. Excellent at night, and avoids the "80s white socks look".

Throughout winter I wear bright yellow overshoes regardless of weather. They are highly visible and constantly moving to alert motorists.

All my cycling buddies of a certain age do the same. Youngsters wear black.

I have retro reflective tape on the front/back of both cranks. i.e. facing forwards and backwards, rather than to the sides. I'm told it looks as if I have flashing lights on both cranks, which seems like a win. And pink shoe covers much of the time too. Pink is visible in a far wider range of situations than yellow, and even orange.

I didn't know this. I've filed it away for next time I need overshoes. Thanks.

An idea I will embrace, thank you.

Especially whilst I use my illegal pedals in France. Right now in the fog or brouillard or brume, not sure. Struggling with a translation of jubillee clips at the moment.
