My daughter used to eat cucumbers like bananas but without the peeling thing. We used to get through quite a lot. Fortunately I grew them so it wasn't a buying process, more of a picking one. But three a day was child's play literally.

What's really crazy is expecting to have out of season stuff all year round, expecting to pay the same all year round. Then folk getting in a flap when it's not. All the while glossing over the fact that many people can't even afford to eat let alone buy a cucumber.

Not sure if your comment is directed TO me or AT me.
Let me clarify.....when I said "crazy" I refer to the panic buying which causes those empty shelves.

i know, and then some people have the temerity to stuff them up their front/ back* bottom for "pleasure", just rubbing it in

*delete as applicable.

Our local greengrocer has just published a photo showing an abundance of fresh produce on their shelves.
when anything is in "short supply" its normally the big stores that get wiped out first. Buy small^, buy local, they generally have a more sustainable and robust supply chain anyway.

^ unless buying for "pleasure", in which case buy big, maybe, if that's your thing.

Can't wade through thread, but Justin King (ex JS & now M&S) explained it's to stop wholesalers swooping and buying it all up in the early morning.

which actually makes a lot of sense, someone posted a link early on of someone trying to buy 100 for her smoothie making or beauty treatment business.

Couldn't give them away..........

Stand outside your local supermarket with them and you'll make a fortune.

According to Thérèse Coffey, Defra secretary of state, we should all relish the turnip season, as our ancestors did before British Privateers discovered tomatoes, salad, spaghetti and other foreign crops.
