People have called me Andrew Culture so long most folk think it IS my real name!

I'm okay with that

I changed my surname years ago, I just went to a solicitor and he did it. Can't remember how much it cost or how long it took, but since I am a tight arse, it won't have been much.

Find a local solicitor who does free clinics, you normally get 30 minutes to an hour free, at least you will get the whole process professionally explained and priced out.

The deed poll companies are providing official looking stationary for something you can do yourself for free.

I used such a company when I changed my name for that reason, I've used it in banks etc with no questions.

When I changed my surname, I also added in a new middle name.

The guitarist in my old band changed his name because he has exactly the same name as his dad - his dad decided to register the birth after wetting the baby's head and got a bit confused by the forms.

I had a similar problem. My parents decided I should be called Andrew James Velvet-Curtain. However, between South Shields Maternity Hospital and the Registry Office there was a pub. So, by the time my dad had stopped for a quick refreshment or two and made it to register my presence in the World, the certificate he came out with said James Andrew Velvet-Curtain. He was not popular with my other parent.
