Just wondering if anyone has ever change their name by deed poll, how easy is it to do and how long did the process take?

Thank you

Nope, but this looks like the place to start http://www.deedpoll.org.uk/

it's quick and cheap. One of my pupils did it in about a week for £13 or thereabouts. I think most of the stuff was done online.

I dont want to be called Matthew anymore. From now on, I am known as Maximillion Stargate Express.

Sorted. This is one thing that I have never understood. If someone wants to change their name, then why does the law get involved. Yes you have a name on your birth certificate, but that is the name you were given at birth. You can be called whatever you want. A basic human right is to be called by whatever you want.

Just looking at the deed poll website and feeling a little  about it. It cost about £65, need to find someone who is in a position of power who has known me for 10 years or more. A notice is then put in the press. I just want to change my last name.

Yes, it was pretty straightforwards, but be aware there is a technicality if you want to change your first name.

Interesting that.

When I got married we double barreled our names and didn't need to do anything official. We were advised that we could use what we liked for our surname and would only need Deed Poll if we were changing out first, or given, names.

I was able to get all my official docs to my married name and then, after divorce, back to my previous name with no more then a letter of explanation and the marriage/divorce certs.

Maybe we were ill advised....
But it all worked out in the end.

Depending on what they mean by a position of power, I'd suggest Claire from the Arch Dept.? (or another member of staff like Terry?)

Or get Pete to machine you a ring...;) (Although I've looked into that, and it does cost a bit more even for the most basic stuff. But you get a party).

You do not need the Gazette notice or landowner's signature for an unenrolled deed poll, which is all you need for a change of sur(last, family)name.

Maximillion Stargate Express - I anticipate that it will do wonders for you getting shortlisted for job interviews in the conservative world of civil engineering.
I've got a fiver on him for the 2.30 at Uttoxeter (wherever the hell that is ...)
