I think many male riders would have done the same - she's exciting to watch as are many others irrespective of their gender. And most riders "have balls". Apart from me - when I hit the back of a car back in 1978 and needed stitches in my chin I cried. I was only 9, and was 20 miles from the nearest hospital tho...I think Hannah Barnes is just wanting to have a scar like mine.

Awaits tales of male v. female riders "balls"...

Yep. All cyclists who race at the top level are tough. If they weren't, they wouldn't be there. It's a bloody hard sport.

A sudden outbreak of common sense! And very fair play from Laura Trott (my favourite cyclist) for her twitters. Wiggle-Honda's site needs a bit of a rewrite now though.

EDIT: I wrote this about an hour ago but forgot to send it and it now looks like Scoosh has already said it:sad:

Yes it is a good result.

I would like to think that all the tweets, facebook postings and emails to British Cycling had something to do with it, but if that is the case or not I guess we will never know.

But it was nice to see so many people getting behind her and supporting her.

Ouch. When I was three I had the bright idea of riding my tricycle off the edge of a 2ft step. I was thrown over the top, landing on my chin and needed a good few stitches. Even as a 31-year-old man I still treat those steps with the greatest respect. :B)

I couldn't give a monkey's about competitive cycling but to get up from a spill like that and just carry on takes guts. I've nothing but admiration for Hannah Barnes and am glad she was credited with the win.

What a kerfuffle!! In a football match the ref sometimes realises he's made a mistake when a ball doesn't cross the goal line. They don't change the result though. So when maradonna did the hand of god why didn't they change the result? It's great for Hannah but what a joke it has been.

But the problem is the video and photographic evidence shows Hannah won and they have known this all along, then they tried to fob people off with bullshit excuses like she had her hands in the air, which clearly was a load of old cobblers.

If they had made a genuine mistake they should have just come out and said it, not made up excuses to try to qualify it.

As it's been said in TDF they almost always go over the line with no hands on the bars & doing silly pumping arms celebrations etc. :/
