"But there's some kind of regulation that you can't take both arms off handlebars to win, which is crazy because every single cyclist does that when they win a race. I don't think it's over.

"If it stands that I stay second after taking my hands of the bars then so be it. It's a bit annoying and I'm probably never going to do it again."

Maxifuel Pro Cycling rider Barnes was demoted to second, behind Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling and double Olympic champion Trott.

it seems it was a photo finish, with Trott getting the initial result but on further inspection Barnes was the winner, but by this stage Trott had been announced as the winner to the crowd...Then Barnes was found to have endangered lapped riders by raising arms to celebrate win ..... make of it what you will but strange very strange...

Is there any precedent for this or is it because women can't really be trusted to ride bikes even with both hands on the bars, let alone with none?

Oh, and if taking hands off the bars endangers lapped riders, shouldn't the onus be on the lapped riders to get out of the effing way in the first place?

Yes, the WyndyMilla FB statement seems about right to me - someone needs to put their hands up and say "we got it wrong" and then move on.

Barnes is an exciting rider to watch.

She certainly has a lot more "balls" than a lot of the male cycle riders, after hitting the deck with her chin her she gets up and wins then goes off to have 9 stitches in her chin afterwards

This is why I like the womens cycle racing they actually race which is what I like to see, but we need less of this bullshit.

I think many male riders would have done the same - she's exciting to watch as are many others irrespective of their gender. And most riders "have balls". Apart from me - when I hit the back of a car back in 1978 and needed stitches in my chin I cried. I was only 9, and was 20 miles from the nearest hospital tho...I think Hannah Barnes is just wanting to have a scar like mine.

Awaits tales of male v. female riders "balls"...

I guess there will be someone along in a moment to tell the tale of the cyclist who crashed then got up picked up his own severed arm and went on to win the race ........... I wonder if he would have been done for not having both hands on the handlebars

Yes, a gutsy rider who's having a great year. No one can say she doesn't take things on the chin, even with the dodgy BC commissairing. She did a short interview on the Channel 4 Tour Series coverage and she's aiming to get into Europe and get more experience against world-class women.

Laura Trott just posted the following on Twitter:

"For all those commenting on the Nocturne. When myself and Hannah crossed the line it was tight and my transponder
picked up first. This is Why I was called the winner, before the photo finish was checked. Having seen the video
Hannah won fair and square. Fair play to her! Thats bike racing for u! Cant win them all. Now I think its time to
put that one behind us and continue growing womens cycling! #lovemysport"
