can almost certainly fit mudguards and rack on it (i have got a scott speedster which is a 'racier' i.e. more of a pure road bike and you can put mudguards and a rack on it)

they're in windsor I think, don't know how far that is from east berkshire?

Oldbiker, only thing I would add is not to forget to budget for a decent lock and any other stuff you may need for your commute - lights, rack, pannier and you may find yourself wanting some cycling specific clothing such as a jacket for the rather variable weather at the moment.
