Several years ago I was in Waitrose intent upon the purchase of some sandwiches for our neighbour, and one of the staff brought out some more sandwiches from the back place.

She was a wench of perhaps 50 years, and I was fascinated to see her start putting tuna sandwiches out right under the "VEGETARIAN" sign.

"So how long has tuna been vegetarian then?", says I, cheerily.

She thought for a moment, looked at the sign, looked at me and said "Well I suppose it depends what they eat."

I'm always amazed at the amount of people who think fish is vegetarian!

COOK?!?

Some people can't even count, let alone cook. Not long ago SWMBO bought 3 metres of fabric at 9.99 a metre. The girl behind the counter came to a halt, and then stood by a colleague's elbow until the colleague had finished with the calculator. I told her "29.97" before she'd typed in 9.99. When she got the same answer she sniffed "Might have told me earlier...."

I don't think the girl was thick, but she had certainly been failed by her school.

She'd not been failed by the school but by the curriculum.

Kids are taught mathematics rather than arithmetic and it shows.

Chicken Biryani, onion bhaji, vegetable samosa, paratha, yoghurt

for £4.20.

And it was gorgeous home-made stuff.

[/quote]

I'm moving to Tooting.

Same order from my nearest Indian takeaway (chappati instead of paratha) would be

£11.65

and it's all out of a packet and virtually inedible.
