A challenge for those with rollers.

Get up to a comfortable 20 mph then bunny-hop off them sideways and see what happens.

Guess at the answer:

Your wife/girlfriend/partner yells "Look at the state of the f*cking carpet" in response to the nice friction burn?

Hi All

Just got my Tacx rollers, I am almost getting it but I am finding it hard work to peddle, I am on a road bike which is OK what pressure do you lot have in the tyres I feel like there is a lot of tyre resistance.

Only peddled for 15 mins and was sweating like Gary Glitter in Toys-r-us lol

Cheers

I just plonk the bike on the rollers - so same tyre pressure as I use on the roads. If it's hard to pedal, use a lower gear and/or settle for a lower speed?

(being hard work is the point, isn't it?)

I can still remember my first ride on rollersTo start with a wobbled all over the place and I had a vice grip on the garden gate beside me. Eventually (several minutes later) I managed to get both hands on the handlebars and as I relaxed the wobbling stopped. As I became more confident and started to look ahead instead of at my front wheel everything became much easier. I was just starting to think I'd got the hang of it when I got a nasty shock, litterally. Can you remember the Vandegraph generators they used to have in schools?Well lets just say that was the last time I ever set the rollers up next to a metal gate.

So what's the advantages/disadvantages of rollers over turbo trainers? Sorry if this sounds like a bloody stupid question

Just had another spin on my rollers, getting the hang of them now still a bit wobbly but once i get going theres no problems and they give you a real good work out.

If it's hard work just change gear! Sweating is unavoidable on rollers or turbos.

I found it took about 10 minutes to learn how to ride them. My approach was to ride with one hand holding something like a table, chair, cupboard or washing machine and ride for 10 minutes and then I just let go and off I went. After a few sessions I had no wobbles at all.

It's probably easier to learn without clipless pedals if you're a bit nervous and having trouble - put the clipless back on once you get the hang of it.

My rollers arrived today, so I set 'em up and had a go this afternoon...

It took a few minutes to get the hang of it. It feels like a bloody long way from the ground!

Anyway, I set them up in a doorway with some cardboard underneath to protect the floor. I wobbled a bit to start with, but the answer seems to be speed. I gradually got steadier, and the wobbles came less frequentley, but they still came. This, I'm sure, will get easier with practice. The hardest part is getting on and off! (Well, more "on" really.)

I did 10 miles on them, and sweated like a fat bloke shovelling coal. I had to get off to find a solution, and ended tying a rag round my head, Japanese Kamekaze style, which seemed to do the trick.
