Got some tacx rollers today, ordered yesterday from Wiggle. Up and running in no time. Five mins leaning against the wall then I could balance no problem. Once I relaxed my death grip and looked forward instead of down it was simple.
Think I'm going to like them!
Only fly in the ointment is the £20 discount code they put on site today....bugger.

Not had time to fall off them yet, and poop yourself as you fly across the room at speed, headding for the nearest wall / glass door etc....

Better you revise your vehicle dynamics Fossy.

When a car/truck/bike is on a chassis rolls, the mass of the vehicle is not moving with relation to the Earth ( or dyno frame ).
If you roll off, the wheels ( they don't possess much rotational inertia ) will stop immediately even if you don't grab the brakes, and you will topple over sideways.

This is quite positive proof of Hannah Barbera and W. Disney influencing the younger generation with BAD physics.

I drove a Land Rover Discovery off a chassis dyno at 60 mph. There was some screeching of tyres as they hit the chequer plate, but the thing just stalled out cus it had NO forward inertia.

A challenge for those with rollers.

Get up to a comfortable 20 mph then bunny-hop off them sideways and see what happens.

Check out the video on the tacx website. They do exactly that and carry on pedalling onto the track!

Done, you stop dead and have a small poo trying to ensure you unclip quick enough to get a solid foot down. Look keo cleats meeting laminate flooring a jointy angle don't provide the best purchase!

I should point out that it wasn't intentional.

What about the angular momentum in the rotating wheels? Though this may be negligible, you may move a tiny bit.
Things may get complicated if you're on a fixed * and clipped in - not going to try though !

* when I hop on a fixed it's on the road, so legs will be on auto and keep going

Very happy with these now. Got my iphone mounted on the bars and watch bbc iplayer for half an hour while pedaling along. All I need now is that connector that lets me rig the dynamo hub of my dutch bike up to charge the phone!

How do you find them compared to a turbo trainer, as a matter of interest? Are they easy to setup? And stow away between sessions?
