I've not been out on my bike for a week now and I'm FED UP. I had a kidney biopsy on Wednesday so have another week before I'm allowed to do any exercise (or lift anything, drive, or have any fun). I'm scared that by the time the week has passed I'll have lost any motivation to get out and will have lost any fitness I might have gained.

You won't lose your fitness over a couple of weeks. In fact it might help you in that you'll be raring to go when you can cycle again! Your motivation will be the fact that you know cycling is doing you good and helping with your fitness. Good luck with your op, hope everything goes ok!!

Look at it this way: all the cycling you've done thus far will have massively increased your fitness, thereby speeding up your recovery.

Hope all goes well - TAKE IT EASY!!

Don't worry, it happens to us all. Sometimes if I haven't cycled for a couple of weeks, I start thinking the fitness I have gained is 'slipping away' IYKWIM.

But within 30 mins of getting on the bike again I remember why I love it so much and realise it takes more than a couple of weeks and the odd Crunchy nut clusters with chocolate curls and blue top milk breakfast to dent the fitness too much!

:hugs: Hope you feel better soon, Thelma!

I wouldn't worry about loosing too much fitness in 10 days, you'll get it back quickly - considering how quickly you increased your distances when you started! In the meantime you can look forward to your next ride, and look at maps to find nice places to ride to next :reading: ... and read about cycling on CC (not the same as going out on the bike, but ...)

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I hope your kidney biopsy is clear and whatever you may have turns out to be ok.

A break might do you good as i find if i hammer it all the time my legs are still tired by next monday and a few extra days of enforced rest give me more motivation and rest so when i do get back on the bike i am raring to go !

EDIT
You cycle and like the rest of us are seen as mad by most people anyway so do not worry about that !

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping that my disease is in remission and kidney function hasn't declined further (should be around 20-25%). Fingers crossed for preliminary results on Tuesday.

I've dug out a map I'd forgotten I had, found a lock for the bike (which has seized up - how do I get it to unlock?) and am now researching computery things. I'll be desperate to play with my new toys when I'm allowed to get out again.

I've got everything crossed for you.

I love my bike computer. I was given some unexpected cash so spoilt myself with a more expensive one, but got it from my LBS with loyal customer discount so am feeling good about the purchase on all counts.

WD40 should sort the lock out.

WD40 should sort the lock out.

Yep, if it doesn't move and it should....WD40. If it's moving and it shouldn't....duct tape! The only tools you need!

WD40 (bargain shop equivalent) hasn't worked. The key still won't turn.

BUT amongst the doom and gloom of my hospital appointment, I was told I can get back on my bike again. I'm under orders to do just a tiny, less than a mile ride first and then build it up slowly from there. I should take a month to get up to 20 miles. That seems a bit excessive to me, but I'll see how I get on.

Bike tomorrow!!!!!

If WD40 hasn't budged it then ACF50 should but it's a bit much to buy a can of that to free 1 lock..did you give it a good soaking of WD40 and then leave it overnight?

I did, yes, although it was cheapie copy-cat stuff rather than The Real Thing. I've just seen the price of ACF50 and although it's expensive, it's certainly cheaper than buying a new lock (it's one of those heavy D things).

Yay! Good news that you are allowed back on the bike! :wahhey:

I think their reasoning may be that if you do a single mile first and something hurts, you hopefully won't have done any damage ... quite sensible really  . A bit of quality over quantity for the next wee while   ...

Enjoy your ride tomorrow!!!

Unlucky Thelma - I've been off the bike since my accident in early feb and have just started the commute again this week. The motivation and fitness come back quickly!
