I read somewhere that there was once an actual maglia nera but the organisers had to withdraw it because it was attracting serious competition with riders doing unseemly things like sneaking off the course and hiding in barns in order to come in last.

It's got a big lump 10k from the end. Alaphilippe to put in a trademark attack, escape from the group descend like a demon and stay clear to win.

Well, I suppose he might get as far as attacking on the climb ...

How many sprinters are left ? , less teams to work a breakaway could have a chance but how do they get away

There is also a cult thing about being nearest to an hour behind the leader isn't there somewhere (probably the TdeF but maybe all GTs??)
