I have a 2012 Defy1 and a 2015 Defy2 and I don't recall either being oddly spaced.
As mentioned previously, I also have mudguards on the Defy1 and as they sit so close to the wheel even if you could get the tail end to fit by tweaking the stays it wouldn't fit properly under the brake and where the mudguard attaches to the seat tube.
You can use these points as reference on yours.
Does the centre of the tyre align with the bolt above the derrailleur on the seat tube
Does the centre of the tyre align with the centre of the brake caliper bolt

Hi,

Bournemouth Cycyleworks have arranged for the bike to go back as the bike also came with a few large scratches on the crank arm and break assembly. I spoke to Giant Sheffield as well for advice and they suggested its normal and should be like that on the defy. Giant warranty telephone support said it should be near to centre but it may be off centre.

When it comes to size and you are caught between 2 sizes, Bikes are one category that you go for the smaller size. Very unlike clothes and other items.

Even though I don't have one, lots of friends love the Defy and Giant service is pretty good. They also probably have the largest R&D setup in the World.
