Or, all you old people could use it to pay for all that extra fuel you clearly need just to try and keep warm at your advancing years.... must be awful.

Got mine last year. Also free swimming, and bus pass. Only free things I ever had since I left school at 15, so I don't feel guilty.

There are three of us in this house hold and because we are all over sixty (well over) it's split three ways and sent to each of us, even though we have a shared account for dealing with these things. but we are grateful to get it and it will be used for the heating. Mind I've found that the best way to get warm this week is to clear the snow off our drive and patio (posh word for six paving slabs below two steps).

I'm due mine next year, the misses gets it already. What made me feel old was the eldest sons birthday in the summer, I suddenly realised he was the same age that I was when I first met the misses.

That realisation was a few years back in my case! Really makes you think doesn't it? My first thought was: "Where the h*ll did all that time go?"

Exactly what I thought, where does it go, and why so fast?

... and my next thoughts were:"I wonder if my dad felt like this about me?" (funny - I'd never thought about my dad in this regard before then), followed by "I wonder if my son realises that one day he will be having these thoughts about his son?"

Talk about the circle of life!

MS (Mr Slug) was 60 last month. Due to the phased increase in the female retirement age, he is not yet eligible for his buss pass or the heating allowance - a woman born on the same day as him will not retire until next summer, so that is when he will get them. Which is a pity, cos I had plans for that money

Maybe we should have an oldies forum where the same posts are repeated each week and we could all tell the same anecdotes .....

I may post this again later

Ah.... this reminds me of the time someone suggested it would be better if we had an oldies forum where the same posts are repeated each week and we could all tell the same anecdotes....
