How to motivate a 19 year old boy - girls.
Lots of young men go to the gym to build a body they think might attract the opposite sex (or sex generally)
you ride to work and get in shape not only for free but saving the bus fare you can get a tattoo on your buff legs
and the girls will swoon.

But please please please don't lech at other riders! I'd hope most groups would ask anyone doing that to leave. I hope "buff legs" are not attractive on its own but, well, it rarely hurts to be not fat, does it?

Ha - in my case, major loss of fat is revealing ugly varicose veins in my clot-damaged left leg and stretch marks everywhere else! :thumbsdown:

(Still, I would rather be slim and healthy and have loose skin, than be fat and unhealthy with tight skin.)

Having had a look through the thread (particularly your response to @Pat "5mph") I wonder whether the bike is set up right for you? I see lots of new riders about with their saddles set much too low which makes the bike harder work than it should be. Might possibly be why riding in isn't leaving you feeling energized and alert?
Thanks for that, id never thought about adjusting it. Watched a youtube video on it and adjusted last night. Ride feels much easier and much better. Ill see how i go on tommorrows commute.

Strava on your phone and watch a bit if the Tour de France on ITV4. I wouldn't watch the whole stage (I do) just the last 10k where it's proper exciting. Then imagine you in it in your way to work

Update (kind of?)

After adjusting the saddle and then going on to adjusting stem, handlebars etc etc I felt a lot more comfortable on the bike and started to ride to work every day. Yesterday I did a 35 mile ride which is my longest ride so far. Also found music to be a big help when riding, Put together a playlist that I've been listening to with the one earphone in, stops me from getting too bored.
Find out Monday morning if im loosing my job or not. So I may have more time to ride soon ^_^

A like for getting the bike sorted :okay: - not so much for the possibility of being out of a job.

Having said that, being able to ride any time you like is a nice perk of being out of the rat race for a while.^_^

I have good experiences with motivating my children with proving that this or that movie or music star they love does exactly what I suggest in this case to ride the bicycle.

I would suggest...

That you do whatever you want to do...!

The benefits of cycling are HUGE in so many different ways..

To start with look at you right now.. You are socializing with complete strangers, asking for advice to people you got no idea what they do or are... And why? Because of cycling..! Social aspect you can add to this that you are young and most likely looking for "love" now ask yourself "Do I want to date someone healthy?" That like the outdoors? That has a better chance of living longer? Or the opposite..? Up to you what you pick...

Health reasons? Millions..! Stay fit? Don't get me started..! But seriously, doesn't matter what we tell you.. Is your call.. I will sound like a dinosaur but I wish I had discover cycling when I was 19 and no 33 I would be much faster then now..!

Hope all this help you to get you up and riding..

Oh by the way... Cycling saved my life..!!
