The dictionary gave "bland" as part of the definition of "urbane", (courteous, civil) so I looked up bland as well. "Bland" can mean polite, and mild of manner.
You might also note the use of "Dictionary" as in book.

Thank you to those people who offered encouragement and suggestions on this thread. I have submitted the application form on-line. It was much easier than I expected, no need for tippex to cover any boo boos 
, and it could be altered if necessary. Much easier than trying to write one out by hand. The interview, if I get one is not til the end of August, some employers like to take their time over recruitment.

I could get myself a wonderful job if I wanted to at the Environment Centre. Hours to suit, rewarding, interesting work, very friendly staff, a large park outside for a walk at lunch time, quiet location, easy to reach by train and bike, as many holidays as I would like. 
Just one drawback - no remuneration, except mileage, and I would like to earn more that £12 a day.
