My gas meter serial number on my bill and registered on the national database does not match my meter, my meter point reference number( MPRN) does match .

I have been told 3 times by Utility company that if I change supplier this will cause problems, I have been told twice by same utility company it wont cause problems.

So I said just get the right number registered then I know for definite there wont be any problems.

2 years later and numerous complaints the number still does not match up and I would like to change supplier now as my online account has also never worked properly and I am fed up phoning them for something 2 clicks of a mouse could do in seconds that takes 40 minutes plus on a phone.

Has anybody had a similar experience and how did you resolve it?

No, but I used to look after software for gas registration for npower. It, is indeed, difficult to register a property with the wrong MPRN. If I remember correctly it's Transco who originally allocate the numbers. (The power companies all have to communicate with Transco to transfer your registration). I think if we had a disputed number we'd have had to chase it up through Transco.

I've just remembered that Transco used to periodically send us updates to the MPRN database - a match of MPRN with address. Your supplier needs to look at that for the correct number to use.

Edit: Sorry, I thought you had the wrong MPRN. I'd still try to get the serial number sorted but it is less important than the MPRN.

My MPRN is registered correctly, just the meter that is wrongly registered.

Yes, the wrong meter number is on my bill .
You have Address, MRPN and serial number of the meter on a bill, first two are correct and serial number of meter is wrong.

The fitters fault then.
Any ID number for him on the meter. Will be on a small sticker on the side.

That's a bit like a phone company charging you for a number you don't have, and them knowing it.
